Arctic PASSION factsheets highlight key insights for Arctic observing

The Arctic PASSION project has released a series of eight thematic factsheets, presenting key insights and outcomes from its work to improve Arctic observing systems and better respond to societal needs.

Together, these factsheets translate complex research into clear, actionable messages for policymakers, researchers, Indigenous communities, and other Arctic stakeholders.

Turning Arctic observations into usable knowledge

The Arctic is experiencing rapid environmental and societal change, making reliable, accessible data more important than ever. Arctic PASSION has worked to develop a more coordinated and integrated observing system that supports decision-making and improves understanding of these changes.

The 8 Fact sheets

The series covers a range of topics, from environmental monitoring to the societal value of Arctic observations:

  1. Five reasons why an Arctic Observing Network matters for you and your well-being (an overview of project results)

  2. Optimising Arctic observational capacities

  3. Supporting Arctic communities by addressing wildfire and air quality concerns

  4. Monitoring and adapting to changing lake ice conditions

  5. Improving wildfire observations in the Arctic: Shared variables for informed action

  6. Strengthening Arctic decision-making

  7. Benefits of investing in Arctic observing

  8. Thawing Grounds: Mapping Arctic Permafrost Change

INTERACT contributed to the development of the factsheet on Optimising Arctic observational capacities, bringing its expertise in coordinating access to research infrastructures across the Arctic, Boreal and Alpine regions. Drawing on our extensive network of research stations and long-standing experience in supporting field-based science, INTERACT helped highlight the importance of better coordination, shared use of infrastructure, and improved access to observations. These efforts are key to reducing fragmentation and strengthening the overall effectiveness of Arctic observing systems.
