INTERACT Online Seminar: Conducting Research in Indigenous Lands | 3 March 2026
How can research stations and scientists responsibly conduct research on Indigenous lands? Where do you start, which guidelines should you follow, and how can meaningful relationships be built?
On 3 March 2026 at 4pm CET, INTERACT will host an online seminar exploring these questions together with Indigenous representatives and Arctic research station managers.
This webinar brings together governance perspectives, practical guidance, and lived experience from Inuit and Sámi homelands. It aims to support research station managers and scientists in navigating Indigenous permitting systems, understanding expectations around ethical engagement, and building meaningful, long-term relationships.
Speakers include:
Niklas Labba (Sámi reindeer herder; Board Member, INTERACT)
Maliina Jensen (Inuit Circumpolar Council)
Charles Gignac (Uapishka Research Station, Canada)
Otso Suominen (Kevo Research Station, Finland)
Following short presentations, there will be time for open discussion and exchange with participants.
The seminar is particularly aimed at research station managers but is open to all researchers and professionals interested in responsible Arctic science.
