INTERACT to Participate in High-Level Arctic Frontiers Roundtable on IPY V

INTERACT will be represented at Arctic Frontiers 2026: Turn of the Tide, one of the Arctic’s leading international conferences, with Elmer Topp-Jørgensen, Coordinator of INTERACT, invited to take part in a high-level roundtable discussion in Tromsø, Norway.

Hosted by the Norwegian Polar Institute in collaboration with Arctic Frontiers, the closed-door roundtable, National Developments and Infrastructure Investments for IPY V, will take place on Tuesday 3 February 2026 at the Fram Centre. The session brings together directors and senior representatives from the world’s key polar research institutes to discuss strategic planning in preparation for the Fifth International Polar Year (IPY V, 2032–2033).

The discussion will focus on two core themes. First, participants will share updates on emerging national and regional plans for IPY V, identifying opportunities for coordination, alignment, and collaboration across countries and regions. Second, the roundtable will address future infrastructure needs, including land-based and maritime research capacity, planned investments, and opportunities for shared use of infrastructure during IPY V.

INTERACT’s participation reflects its central role in enabling international Arctic research through coordinated access to research stations and long-term monitoring infrastructure. As a network spanning terrestrial research stations across the Arctic and beyond, INTERACT contributes directly to many of the infrastructural and collaborative challenges that will shape the success of IPY V.
